The Challenge

Farmers operating new IoT agricultural machinery needed software to manage complex sensor data, irrigation controls, and yield monitoring — but most had limited experience with digital interfaces. The existing software had a 40% error rate during critical operations.

The Process

1

Spent 2 weeks in the field with farmers across Punjab to understand their mental models, physical workflows, and error patterns with the existing interface

2

Mapped the entire machine operating workflow — from pre-dawn preparation to end-of-day logging — and identified 12 failure points in the current UX

3

Simplified the primary dashboard from 47 data points to 8 critical indicators, with clear visual hierarchy for alert states

4

Designed a task-based interface rather than a data-based interface — built around what farmers need to do, not what the sensors can measure

5

Used physical affordances and colour coding that mapped to farmers' existing visual vocabulary: green for good, amber for check, red for stop

6

Managed and designed 14 agriculture industry websites for related clients during this period

The Outcome

After deployment, measurable agricultural yield improved by 67% across client farms. Operating errors dropped from 40% to 6%. The software became the default interface adopted by all agricultural IoT clients of Objectified Soft.
